I would like to be able to find a real logbook, preferably from a military vessel, to see how they are written. It would be best if it were from a vessel of the First World War or later. Does anyone know where I could find that?
This is a real US Naval ship’s deck log sheet, with fictitious entries for training purposes. This happens to not be for a vessel underway, but once the vessel is underway, you’re going to have an entry for every rudder and engine order as well as anything of operational interest. So on a routine underway watch you might burn through two or three pages, but piloting up the Cooper River you might burn through five or six pages.
