Can Bristlenose plecos and kuhli loaches handle small ammounts of livebearer salt in there aquarium? I am asking cuz I am gonna set up a 37 gallon tank and want to move in some platys mollies a bristlenose pleco and some kuhli loaches.
As a matter of fact, plecos and loaches need the salt more than livebearer fish do. All Catfish, Plecos, and loaches do not have normal fish scales, but instead have a variation of skin on their bodies. This makes them very susceptible to disease, such as Ich or tail rot. Aquarium salt is essential to provide a natural slime coat on their bodies to fight bacterial infection. I also highly recommend using the product NovAqua.
P.S. If you are buying a Pleco because you are worried about an algae problem, you do not need to, because as long as you keep your tank out of most sunlight, any algae that grows will be eaten by your mollies.
