This may sound silly, but … put a warm blanket or sweater on, or get in a hot shower or bathtub. Goose bumps are simply a result of a person being too cold and the hair follicles close up so heat doesn’t get in - and making your body hair stand up to warm you.

I was just finishing up feeding my son dinner when I opened up the pantry to get some crackers out for him. I rearranged a few things on my sons food shelf and picked up a microwavable pasta bowl and it had maggots all over it!!!! I FREAKED out and threw it away. How in he world did maggots get in my pantry? Nothing was opened in there? What should I do now? Should I bleach my pantry or anything? I’m afraid everything on the shelf is dirty now!!!

Check any food that was not sealed and toss anything that looks to have been infested. Wash down any cans or bottles with a wet soapy rag. Vacuum all the little buggers out first though and then empty the bag/canister to prevent reinfestation. He may have put a half eaten something on the shelf and that is what started the cycle. Just be glad you caught it.

——

It sounds like you have pantry moths, which can strongly resemble maggots in certain stages. They come home from the grocery store in infested cardboard boxes. They are not uncommon and you can get rid of them. Having them doesn’t mean you are a dirty person.

First, you need to empty your pantry. Inspect all the items you take out. Throw away anything old or that’s been opened for a while and you haven’t used. Pantry moths particularly love grain products, so pay special attention to those.

Second, clean out your pantry. I used hot water with a little dish soap, you can add a drop of bleach if you want. Make sure you wipe the shelves and the sides of the pantry really well.

Third, put a couple bowls of vinegar on different shelves overnight and shut the door. They do not like vinegar and this should finish driving them out. When you open your pantry in the morning, look for any signs of them to clean up.

Put all your grain goods (flour, pasta, rice, etc.), in resealable containers with tight fitting lids. This should avoid the problem in the future. It is possible to get rid of them.

What is ‘consumer confidence’?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

<!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in; mso-header-margin:.5in; mso-footer-margin:.5in; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –>

As TK said, it’s a measurement of Consumer’s Willingness to spend their money and is going to be affected by their feelings of job security, prices (especially oil), news reports, etc. The University of Michigan I believe publishes an index, as does the Conference Board.

—–

That is a very good question, as consumer confidence is down to 50.4 %. Too bad they don’t say what the questions of confidence are. It’s also bad that it doesn’t end at 100%, as one confidence level was 111 %. Just another contrived figure. Have your own confidence and don’t worry about it, I guess. Be prepared for all contingencies.

Are you childfree?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

Have you made the choice to be childfree ?if so why or when did you make this decision?for me i was 14 and it came as a natural choice for me how about you, people said i would change my mind but im 28 now and i still havent.

Yes. I don’t think I ever consciously made the choice, I have just never liked the idea of being a mom. I never even wanted to play with dolls as a kid, although I used to assume that when I got older my maternal instinct would kick in and I’d want some. It just never did. Luckily I found a guy who also has no desire to be a parent.

People said I would change my mind, too. I also get called selfish a lot. Some people just cannot wrap their minds around anything “different”.

——

Yes I am. And I made the decision when I realized I really didn’t have what it took to be a good mother. I wasn’t and am not selfless enough.

I only wish more women would think long and hard about it before becoming mothers…it isn’t a job for everyone, just because you have the ability, physically, to give birth…

—–

I was child free up until age 38, when I got pregnant by accident.

I adore my daughter to pieces, and can’t imagine life without her. It’s an overwhelming love no one can explain to you until you experience it.

HOWEVER…it’s a ton of work and it’s certainly not for everybody, so I respect the choices of people who choose to remain child free.

—-

I was 16 when I decided to be childfree. I’m 18 now and I have yet to regret making that decision. I’m childfree because I don’t trust myself to be a good mother, and there are too many other things I want to do with my life.

What is bacterial vaginosis?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

It is a bacterial infection that develops inside the vagina. It can be caused by a whole lot of different things, including wiping from back to front after using the bathroom, wearing a pad for too long, touching your vagina with dirty hands, etc. It usually causes a very foul smelling, green discharge and causes pain or itching. It needs to be treated through antibiotics, because left untreated can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease which is very painful and can lead to infertility

—–

“Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the name of a condition in women where the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria. It is sometimes accompanied by discharge, odor, pain, itching, or burning.”

read the whole page for lots more info, including symptoms and treatment.

If i passed my msf course do i still need to take the written test at DMV to get my permit?

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Indiana btw.

Yes, you still need to pass the written test at the BMV for your permit. You must hold your permit for 30 days. After that 30 days is up you can go into the BMV and get your endorsed license without having to take a written or riding test.

………..

usually not. when i passed mine…all i did was take the certificate/card with the verification # on it to the dmv and they took my picture and gave me my new license with the M endorsement. no written or road test. hope the same goes for you…made life so much easier. lol. good luck, b safe and keep the rubber side down!

………………

in Texas, the MSF course basically is a prep class for the written portion and replaces the riding portion…

in other words, once you complete the MSF course, you would go to the DPS office that gives the tests, you take the written test only… again, that’s in Texas.

my son recently went thru one of the MSF classes for his license…

check with your local state department of public safety or contact one of the MSF trainers … they can tell you exactly about it for your state.

What is the best way to clean your cellphone?

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

I’ve been in wireless for 7+ years, so here are my recommendations. Rubbing alcohol is the best to use on most of your phone (buttons, speaker area, etc) for getting rid of germs and oils, however on some older models that have the plastic encasement over the display you will want to use glass cleaner on that particular part or else the plastic covering may turn opaque.

I know you didn’t specifically ask for this, but you may also want to occassionally clean the bottom where you connect the charger. For this, you can dip a soft bristled toothbrush in a bit of rubbing alcohol (do not immerse it) and gently brush the connection area to free up any goo or small particles that are wedged or blocking your connectors.

Another note: Never use any type of liquid behind the battery. Most phone manufacturers have a dot or line on the back behind the battery that - if gotten even remotely wet or damp - will leave a tell-tale mark. It won’t hurt your phone, but if you should have an issue while it is under warranty they will assume it is water damage and won’t even bother taking it apart to see otherwise.

—–

I saw on Good Morning America today how to clean cellphones properly. They said to use a dissenfective wipe on the phone. don’t spray anything on your phone as it will damage it.
